This short film (30 minutes) follows Lubicon councilors, elders, and band members as they share with Amnesty International the impact of resource exploitation on their environment, way of life, and traditional economy.

Shot on location in northern Alberta by an accomplished British film company with long ties to Amnesty International, this film stands as a powerful indictment of a country and province that have violated international law in their shameful treatment of the Lubicon Cree. Yet the film also stands as a testament to the Lubicons’ enduring resistance, their ability to preserve their culture and values in the face of incredible odds.

One of the Lubicon members featured in the film and a member of the documentary team will provide a brief introduction beforehand. Afterwards, join members of the Lubicon community, as well as the Amnesty Canada’s Indigenous Rights Campaigner Craig Benjamin, President of the Alberta Federation of Labour Gil McGowan, as well as local activists for a lively mutual exchange on the present Lubicon situation and what individuals and organizations can do to help.

Free refreshments will be provided by the Alberta Federation of Labour. In the theatre lobby a photo exhibit of Lubicon territory and community will be on display, as well as t-shirts and other fundraising items for sale. Admission is by donation.
