Montreal's Fourth Annual Anarchist Bookfair,
the largest anarchist gathering in North America after
the San
Francisco Bay Area Anarchist Bookfair, is an important sharing of
anarchist and anti-authoritarian
ideas for anarchists and non-anarchists alike.
This year's bookfair will feature more than 50 booksellers and groups
from all over North America, as well as the Federation Anarchiste from
France. Workshop presenters include Bo Brown, Ashanti Alston, Eric
Drooker and Cindy Milstein. Festival of Anarchy events will take place
between May 1 and May 18.
Repeating the
success of last year's separate
day of workshops, this year there will once again be an entire day
dedicated to anarchist-oriented workshops and panels (see schedule). The day of workshops
will take place on SUNDAY, MAY 18, 2003, at 1710, rue Beaudry (metro
Beaudry, see location for
directions) between 11am to 5pm.
Unfortunately, only the main floor at this space is wheelchair accessible.
As a welcoming event, the panel and discussion Anarchist Against the War will take place Friday May 16th at 7pm at 1710 Beaudry.
Panelists include: Cindy Milstein (Institute for Anarchist Studies, Institute for Social Ecology and Free Society Collective - Vermont),
Ashanti Alston
(Anarchist Panther Zine, Critical Resistance and Blacks Against the War - New York City), Wally Rosel (Fédération Anarchiste - France),
Harsha Walia (No One Is Illegal Campaign - Montreal), and Benoit Desgreniers
(Groupe Anarchiste Bête
Noire,
NEFAC - Montreal). Followed by New York City artist Eric Drooker & Montreal cabaret artist
Norman Nawrocki with a slideshow, music and words ( $5).
All bookfair events are free, but donations are appreciated. Proceeds
from
this year's anarchist bookfair will be divided between the Montreal
Political Prisoner Calendar Collective, the North American Anarchist
People of Colour Conference (Detroit, October 2003), Les Pages Noires
(Anarchist Infoshop in Quebec City) and La Biblioteca Social Reconstruir
(Anarchist Library in Mexico City).
There will be free
childcare available at the panel May 16, and on May 17
and 18. Bring your kids!
