Resurrect The R-Word...revolution!

Revolution to many means chaos, violence, and death. Disagree? Me too. But should we resurrect the R-word? (read more)
Looking to the Light of Freedom: Lessons from the Civil Rights Movement and Thoughts on Anarchist Organizing
by Chris Crass
When thinking about organizing, about the possibilities for movement building, about the potential of challenging injustice and fundamentally altering the relationships of power in this society - my mind turns to the Civil Rights movement of the 1950's and 60's. (read more)
"It may be that we shall lose our next battle, in the bourgeois sense of the word; but to fight and lose a battle must never affect a revolutionary, because (we) must know that (our) trusted weapon is always the struggle for the cause (we) believe in. For a revolutionary, the social motive force of history is never-ending action; and therefore the simple act of joining battle is a victory in itself."
Buenaventura Durruti, spoken at a meeting in January 1936 during the Spainsh Civil war.

Summit Hopping Postscript: I've been away from resources to update this page for most of the summer but finally have a chance to say a few things. Within the PGA and many other anarchist/activist circles there is a lot of debate happening around the subject of summit hopping, especially in the wake of extreme repression in Italy during the G8 meetings. In the coming weeks I will try to get up a lot of this debate so that it can be spread and talked about further.

One of the major criticisms that hit home for me is that while many of our organizations have good intentions beyond the summit, much of our disscusion and organizing gets sidetracked with the urgency around these big events. This page is a good example. Origionaly intended to get people thinking about moving beyond summit hopping organizing and talking about it, it became sidetracked as an info calendar of sorts focused more around getting people out.

As well, i get the sense that there is a lot of processing taking place right now. The repression in genova, while commonplace to western activists as news items, is hitting closer to home, and 'protest' and organizing is definately being pushed to a new level.

This page will continue to exist and refine itself. If folks are interested in contributing ideas and info for this page please send it to ridefree@tao.ca.

Welcome to the Summit hopping page...
While summit hopping is definately a reality based on privilge it is a growing trend that is strengthening the resistance against capitalist globalization. As long as our organizing is not primarily focused on these symbolic meetings, and we continue to meet and discuss these things, there can be some real benefits to organinzing around massive days of action.

This page is intended to help folks who are planning to be on the european continent this summer get hooked up with the anti-capitalist struggles going on here. Don't come to these places just to be there for the actions, but if you're taking a break from your own communities, might as well make these actions part of your vacation. Good luck.

World Bank cancels meeting in Barcelona due to massive anti-capitalist protests planned. While the WB will be having their discussions online, organizers, and international activists are calling for increased mobalizations in Barcelona this June 25th. This is the time to show that there is more to 'Summit Hopping' than reactionism. We need to get together and build alternatives and what a perfect place to do it.

The same morning I heard this I had just finished reading memoirs of the anarchist uprising in Barcelona. The day after they had defeated the facist army they began to reorganize themselves creating peoples kitchens, liberating the industries, and entering the banks to burn all the money. Anyway....made me smile. Here are two good calls to action and press releases concerning the WB meeting. Read the second one to get inspired.
