To all friends who are still interested in the subject of "summit hopping",

I nearly feel myself like a rabbit, because of all these hopping-discussions....

For me it is no question, that the society reality of capitalism needs to change locally. I dontīt want to describe the private desadvantages that I have to expirience in my social life locally and all the conditions what I would like to change.

But at least here in Cologne I canīt find the poeple for this struggle. Maybe in other countries you have already created better circumstances, groups and enough people to have a voice.

At the moment for me the so-called summit hopping is so much important, because mainly in these events we can demonstrate the growing of the movement to the public and finally get some attention from the media, starting to mention our concerns beyond trashing summit-cities.And maybe than more people will get more sensible to the subject and get an awareness of the local issues, the local and personal consequences that we already have to suffer, but donīt see the chance to change this (and donīt see the people, willing to reclaim the streets)

At this point it would be fatal to stop this summit-hopping and to forgive a big chance of growing, to forgive a big chance for a lot of people discussing in alternative summits, and to forgive a big chance of expiriencing this growing international solidarity. We are still not strong enough at the moment to focus on local struggle !!

Even if these summit-hopping has not a direct effect on our bad living circumstances, we shouldnīt be so impatient to think our movement is strong enough now.

First we see, that the power institutions know what a strong effect these masses of people demonstrating against globalisation have to the public. So these mass demonstrations produce the aimed effect, of bringing our discussion into the public. This could be dangerous for the power-institutions and that is the reason why they started to injure peacefull demonstrators, they clearly want to prevent masses of people to demonstrate against them, because they are fearing this. This all shows, that the "strategy of mass demonstration and summit-hopping" is really effective.

Second it is a good strategy, because it is not a strategy. We donīt hopp summits, because of a strategy, but because we want to demonstrate directly against the decision-makers, directly means in places where they are present.

Third by summit-hopping we demonstrate and expirience directly that so-called democracy does not exist.

Finally I think, that the movement against globalism canīt fullfill a strategy and be leaded only by rational means. When at the moment the energy is there for a lot of mass protest we should not destroy it by questioning it, because people usually follow more their passions then their rational analyses.

At least here in germany the participation in the anti-globalisation movement is very weak and the people need to go to mass protest to not loose their believe in this movement and I agree with Ilan, that a lot of people here get and donīt loose energy from experiencing solidaric international demonstrations. Maybe with this energy they can start little steps locally.

For my analysis in germany we are far away from focusing on local struggle, even if it would make more sense, we would risk to loose the movement.(Of course there are local groups, in Cologne, where I live we have for example an initiative against privatisation projects - but these groups are not recognized in public - even if they struggle for public interests, the majority does not recognize the importance of their concerns)

But after Genua the public (what I call civil society, (to Marco, I am sorry for my confusing English)) recognizes the concerns of the movement at least in the poor amounts that the official media start to report the concerns)

For me it is very difficult to explain all these complicated ideas in English, and sometimes I feel that I canīt express the arguments in the way I would like. Anyway this problem may have more people in this list.

from a rabbit, Regina
